Dining & Drilling With The Dungeonmaster

Been in another world for a while, on a mind-bending project for work. No time for much else – except on the weekend. This weekend we attempted to dine at Serendipity 3, but were met with a 2-3 hour wait. NEVERMIND. Hungry and cold (and waterlogged in the pouring rain) we ducked into a restaurant called Patsy’s across the street. Lovely little family-style Italian bistro. Had appetizer of eggplant and zucchini chips with yogurt dipping sauce, and entrees of vodka penne and an Italian sausage/rigatoni dish. Both amazing.

Struck me as extremely romantic to be dining with Chris in a cozy restaurant, watching passersby battle the downpour on a lazy Saturday in NYC. Everything we do here has an air of romance to it. Even our trip to Home Depot for drill bits, and our customary stop at Barnes & Noble followed by Starbucks that evening.

Continued painting kitchen and installing shelving. Soon the last box will be unpacked, the last room painted, and the final picture hung. And it’s only taken half a year! Is that a long time to get settled in? I think I just get bored and overwhelmed with tasks such as these. Have to mix them up with a little couch potato and goof-off time. Yet I can’t wait for all this home-improvement stuff to be over. (But then I wonder...how will I spend my time?)

I suppose I would spend it writing, exploring, shopping, what-have-you. Picked up another hobby to pass the hours. Don’t laugh girls…I’m playing Dungeons & Dragons with my hubby & guy friends. No - really! It’s soooo much fun. It’s kind of like a combination of acting, writing and playing board games all at the same time. What could be better? I confess, I am a total dork, but I love playing video & computer games so much…this is just taking it to another level. I used to be heavily addicted to an online, text-based RPG called Dragonrealms in the 90’s, which was essentially D&D. So I am not unfamiliar with the world of Role Playing Games, in fact, I think I fit right in. And playing with Matt, David and Chris is truly appealing…we spend much of the time laughing and sparking each other’s sick imaginations.

So yes…we are quite the pack of nerds. I admit it. Sign me up for a lifetime membership to the Full-On Geek Club.

(Of course, I think I already had my foot in the door on that one).

Whilst in Denver (excuse the affectation, I am reading "Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife" by Linda Berdoll, a sequel to "Pride and Prejudice", told with the bed curtains drawn back, shall we say...? It is quite an engaging read, can't put it down. ANYWAY,) my sister introduced my father (who loves board/role playing games) and I to a game called "Pirates of the Spanish Main". ONe can purchase these packets of cards, which include a miniature ship, gold pieces, crew, islands, a die and the rules of the game. It is SOOOOOOO much fun! ALas, I have no one to play with in Dallas, as all my gaming buddies are back home.
